Local Round-up: Firms pick up the prizes for excellence

Firms from the Capital have been recognised at the Scottish Business in the Community (SBC) Awards for Excellence.

Nairn's Oatcakes won the award for SBC's small/medium enterprise of the year, while travel company Rabbie's Small Group Tours and the Royal Bank of Scotland were both among those reaccredited with The Big Tick, which recognises best practice in combating climate change.

SBC chief executive Jane Wood welcomed the high standard of applications.

Bid to flatten car park land

A DEVELOPER is seeking permission to build four new flats on land currently used as a car park.

The application is to create the flats and parking space on land adjacent to Herd Terrace in Loanhead.

The proposals, submitted on May 24, are set to be considered by Midlothian Council.

Keir pleased by jobs boost

Colin Keir, MSP for Edinburgh Western, has welcomed the creation of 90 jobs following State Street's announcement to set up a 'centre of excellence' for cash servicing in the city.

Mr Keir said: "Edinburgh has proved itself once again by attracting a global leader in financial services."

Two-wheeled treasure hunt on bike paths

A FAMILY-friendly treasure hunt on wheels is to be held around the Capital on June 12.

The Bike Station's Innertube Map Postcode Challenge will see participants cycling around to try and find ten cards at different post codes along north Edinburgh's cycle paths. Brunch to make a big noise

There will be a brunch and live music event at the Out of the Blue Drill Hall in Dalmeny Street on June 11.

Artists team up for joint gallery exhibition

ARTISTS Kelly-Anne Cairns and Lindsay Turk are exhibiting together at The Leith Gallery.

Lindsay graduated from Edinburgh College of Art and has participated in numerous exhibitions throughout the UK, including the Royal Scottish Academy Student Exhibition, an exhibition at the RBS headquarters and the Edinburgh Festival. Kelly-Anne was born in Lancaster in 1975 and studied painting at Gray's School of Art, Aberdeen. The exhibition runs until June 25.
