Local Round-up: Families urged to come along to storytelling

PARENTS and children are invited to a new storytelling event in the city.

Tiger Tales is an initiative running once a month at Sighthill, Wester Hailes and Ratho libraries.

It aims to offer parents of children aged four to eight the chance to listen to a story being told by the Tiger Tale tellers.

THE British Medical Association's UK-wide students conference is taking place in the Capital today and tomorrow.

Medical students will debate issues relating to wider higher education policy as well as matters specific to medicine.

The event is at the John McIntyre Conference Centre.

George Hotel scoops awards

The George Hotel has picked up five awards at the Scottish Hotel Awards.

It was named Edinburgh hotel of the year, won a design medal and awards for reception innovation, the business performance gold medal and a regional manager of the year award for David Welch.

Tots ready to help clean beach

Youngsters from Wardie Nursery will carry out a beach clean at Wardie Bay on April 4.

The children, parents, staff and helpers from the nursery in Granton Road will gather rubbish from the sands on Lower Granton Road from 9.30am.

Medical students set to grill prospective MSPs

MEDICAL students in Edinburgh will grill prospective MSPs today.

The event, organised by the British Medical Association in the Capital, will address what the future holds for medical education in Scotland.

Representatives from all main parties will attend at the Pollock Halls summit.

The BMA said students were looking for "strong leadership" and for higher education to be "accessible and affordable".

Among those attending will be Public Health Minister Shona Robison.

Dance night away to help out charity

CLUBBERS can enjoy a full-throttle dance event while supporting a major Scottish charity tonight at Speakeasy nightclub.

Proceeds from club night, which features DJs Jonny Herd, Kris Lindsay, Laurence Nolan and Brad Drew playing a mix of deep house and disco, are being donated to Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland.

The dance event is being hosted in Speakeasy above Caberet Voltaire on Blair Street and doors open at 11pm.

Entry costs up to 5.
