Local Round-up: Chiropractor gives backing to war heroes

A CAPITAL chiropractor is offering free treatment to war veterans of conflicts in the Gulf, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Wight Chiropractic Clinic, in Roseburn Place, will offer the service as part of the Hands for Heroes initiative taking place nationally.

The firm also has branches in Melrose and Haddington.

It is thought that chiropractic treatment can help reduce the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder as well as other post-conflict traumas.

Bike ride for cancer unit

A CHARITY bike ride will raise crucial funds for a city cancer support unit, organisers have said.

The Maggie's Centre Monster Bike and Hike will take place at the end of April.

EDINBURGH-based author Cat Clarke toured schools across the Capital with readings of her book Entangled.

Published by Quercus last month, the book explores issues such as self-harm, alcohol abuse, abortion and casual sex, all in a tone that speaks to teenagers without condescension.

Laying down the path for commuters

RECYCLING charity The Bike Station is looking for commuters to take part in its Better Way to Work Challenge.

The contest, which is free to enter, asks competitors to log the details of trips made on foot, by bike or by public transport.

The charity said that staff at Scottish Gas, Royal London, the Botanic Garden and the National Library of Scotland were among the biggest adopters of the scheme.
