Local Round-up: Auschwitz trip pupils to be honoured

STUDENTS who participated in an event to remember the victims of the Holocaust will be honoured at the City Chambers.

Angela Constance MSP will speak at the Holocaust Education Trust programme on February 23.

Every year the charity takes scores of Lothian school pupils to Auschwitz for a 24-hour trip.

During the event, students will show follow-up work they produced as a result of the trip to the site of the former concentration camp.

Baby death remembrance rescheduled

A CHRISTMAS service for a stillbirth charity cancelled because of the weather has been rescheduled for next month.

Sands Lothians, which also helps parents of babies who die early in life, will now hold the event on March 6 at Craiglockhart Parish Church from 2pm.

Organisers said they were reluctant to cancel the initial event, but had no choice given the state of the roads, potential parking problems and a reduced bus service.

Cash in on huge savings through recycling

HOMEOWNERS could save more than 400 a year by learning to recycle more, an environmental group has claimed.

Zero Waste Scotland said its volunteers were ready to provide free advice on how to compost waste and reduce the amount of rubbish being sent to landfill.

They now provide advice on how to reduce food waste as part of the Love Food Hate Waste campaign.
