Local Round-up: Belly dancers ready to twist

The Twisted Tails traditional belly dancing group is set to wow the crowds at the Meadows festival on Sunday, June 5.

And leader Susan Tonner, manager of the Dogs Trust rescue centre at West Calder, will be appearing with her canine companions at the Meadows dog show the Saturday before.

Kiosk to sell local beef

A NEW food outlet selling locally-sourced beef has opened up in the Capital.

Belhaven Beef, which opened its new kiosk in the St James Centre, aims to "challenge intensive farming practices" and sources its beef from farms in the Scottish Borders. It was set up by Nick Adams and Rebecca Gilmour.

Open day at wildlife reserve

The Scottish Wildlife Trust will open Bawsinch and Duddingston Wildlife Reserve to the public this weekend - offering a rare opportunity to get up close to nature in the heart of the city.

From 11am until 4pm, experts will be on hand to give guided walks.

The Lord High Commissioner visits charity

THE Queen's representative to the General Assembly visited the Homeless World Cup HQ in Easter Road this week.

Lord Wilson of Tillyorn, the Lord High Commissioner, was given an overview of the aims and history of the organisation.

Mel Young, president of the Homeless World Cup, said: "We are honoured that the Lord High Commissioner has come to visit the Homeless World Cup showing his support to the work we are doing."

Library to host event with prize-winning author

AN Edinburgh library will host a free event with author James Robertson and Scotland on Sunday literary editor Stuart Kelly next month.

It will take place at McDonald Road Library on June 16, from 6.30pm to 7.45pm.

Stove dealers are hottest in the Capital

AN Edinburgh wood burning stove specialist has been named Scottish Dealer of the Year by one of the UK's leading manufacturers.

Bonk & Co was established in the Highlands in 1976 and now has a showroom at Abbeyhill.

Manager Alex Dolby and his father Andrew, who manages the Inverness showroom, picked up the prestigious award at the annual Charnwood Stoves premier dealer dinner.
