Local News: Tourists told to dig deep in Highlands

TOURISTS who visit the Highlands with an Edinburgh tour company are to be asked to plant a tree following a new partnership.

Bus company Haggis Adventures has teamed up with Scottish conservation charity Trees For Life to help restore the Caledonian Forest in the Highlands.

More than 3000 people from around the world will stop off at the Dundreggan Estate in Glen Moriston near Loch Ness to plant a tree. They will also be encouraged to carry out conservation work.

No-one in the frame at club

POLICE were called to a reported disturbance at a city snooker club.

Officers attended The New Yorker club in Jock's Lodge at around 5.45pm on Saturday. A police spokesman said: "Upon the arrival of officers, there was no disturbance ongoing."

Art dealer's licence application brushed aside

COUNCIL road chiefs have objected to plans to sell prints and paintings on the corner of Princes Street.

Veronese Giancarlo has applied for a new street trader's licence for the corner of Princes Street and South St Andrew Street, after having to move from a previous space on South St David Street because of tram work.

Paul Murrell, of the council, has objected to the application due to it being a main pedestrian route and on one of the first areas where tram work will restart.

All that jazz at store's restaurant

A SCOTS singing sensation will be jazzing up Fridays at Harvey Nicks after being booked to croon at the venue's restaurant from next month.

Lorna Reid and her ensemble will entertain diners at the Forth Floor Friday Night Jazz Series running on February 4 and 18, as well as March 4 and 18, playing from 7.30pm.

A spokesperson said: "Let the week wash away and relax in a hip, hot and happening atmosphere."

Prizes to be won at flats

Plenty to sea at claws event

VISITORS to Deep Sea World can enjoy some close encounters with a variety of crabs and lobsters as part of "Claws - Incredible Crustaceans".

The event, on Saturday and Sunday, offers an insight into crustaceans - from cleaner shrimps and hermit crabs, to giant lobsters and edible crabs.
