Local News: Seven to learn ME therapies

A SCHEME to train up volunteers in therapies for ME sufferers in Edinburgh has attracted seven participants.

Once fully qualified, they will be able to provide treatments such as Indian head massage and reflexology, to ease ME. The training was carried out by city charity Edmesh.

Burns Supper ignites new goals

Rugby stars prop in to open new clothes shop

A NEW Austin Reed store will be opened by Scotland's top rugby stars next Thursday.

The opening of the site at 102-104 George Street, which houses CC and Viyella, will also be attended by the Lady and Lord Provost.

Store managers Mark Walker and Carol Harkins said: "We are extremely excited about our new store opening in Edinburgh. Gorgeous interiors have been designed to show off our collections with sumptuous fitting rooms. We hope our customers will feel comfortable."

Grant tells of disease fight

DR Liz Grant, senior lecturer in global health and development at Edinburgh University, will give a public lecture at New College on The Mound tomorrow at 5.30pm on Combating HIV/Aids, Malaria and other diseases. The lecture is part of a series of events on the Millennium Development Goals.

Science lab rolls up to spark interest

A MOBILE science laboratory is rolling its way into the Lothians next week in a bid to inspire the next generation.

Based at St David's Roman Catholic High School in Dalkeith, the so-called Lab in a Lorry offers 11-14-year olds the chance to explore science through interactive experiments in three 44ft vehicles.

Each lorry is fitted with three distinct lab areas where groups can learn through fun experiments. The programme is delivered by practising scientists and engineers.

The word is English tutors are wanted

STEVENSON College is recruiting volunteers to teach English.

The college has been running the volunteer tutor scheme for more than ten years and has up to 100 students each year who wish to learn English but are unable to attend classes regularly.
