Local news: Men's health set for a full examination

A SUMMIT is to take place next week at Edinburgh University addressing the state of men's health in Scotland.

The event, which goes ahead on Tuesday, will include accounts from both experts and patients living with illnesses commonly associated with the country, such as angina and diabetes.

It has been organised by the charity Men's Health in Scotland and is aimed at improving the wellbeing outcomes for more than one million men in the country.

A GRAND craft and gift fair is being held this weekend at the Freemason's Hall on George Street.

The free event, which is open to all, is expected to boast more than 30 stalls with a range of desirable goods on sale and display.

The fair will run from 10am to 4pm on Saturday and 11am to 4pm Sunday.

Student helps to cut racism with design

A STUDENT at Telford College has won second place in an anti-racism creative competition organised by the Show Racism the Red card charity.

Graphic design student Abbie MacPherson competed against more than 2000 entrants from all over Scotland to develop a piece of work to get across the message that racism is not welcome in Scotland.

Abbie's solution developed around 'racism - cut it out'.

Hypnotherapist visits stadium

TELEVISION presenter and hypnotherapist Ursula James will visit the Body and Soul Fair at Meadowbank Stadium tomorrow and Sunday.

She will give a free talk at 2pm on Saturday and a two-hour ticketed workshop at 1pm on Sunday.

Hospital radio to broadcast from the Western

Red Dot Radio, Edinburgh's own hospital broadcasting service, is celebrating National Hospital Radio Week by broadcasting live from the Western General on Saturday, April 2.

The day will include record requests, challenges, competitions, face painting for the kids and a prize raffle with gifts donated by local companies.

The registered charity, run entirely by volunteers, has been broadcasting nightly to hospital patients for almost 50 years.

New date for cinema event

A FILM and fireworks event postponed due to bad weather is now to be held at 7.15pm on Saturday, April 2.

The event in St Patrick's Square is being organised as part of a campaign to bring the former Odeon Cinema in Clerk Street back into community use rather than seeing it turned into a hotel.
