Local News: Get tucked in at comedy Burns supper

A COMEDY Burns Night is taking place at the Voodoo Rooms in West Register Street on January 28.

The night will feature stand-up performances from comedians Vladimir McTavish, Neil McFarlane, James Kirk and Cammy Sinclair, while the audience will be offered a Burns supper of haggis, neeps, tatties and whisky.

The night, which is compered by Viv Gee, starts at 7.30pm. Tickets for food and comedy are 16 in advance from www.ticketweb.co.uk or Ripping Records.

Review into tourist Oscars

A REVIEW has been launched into the annual "Oscars" ceremony of the Scottish tourism industry.

VisitScotland has ordered the review into its Scottish Thistle Awards event, which is held in Edinburgh.

It will look at the awards criteria, nominations and ceremony. Changes will be announced next month.

Step up for hip hop class

CHILDREN will have the chance to learn a variety of dance styles at the Hip Hop Half Term School held at Dance Base in the Grassmarket next month.

The classes are open to children aged seven to nine and ten to 12, and run from February 14-18. They should be booked on 0131-225 5525 or in person.

Big hand for Gruffalo puppets

Gruffalo creator Julia Donaldson will give a puppet show and book signing at St Mary's Cathedral in Palmerston Place at 2pm on February 5. The author will use characters from her books and act out the stories with the help of children in the audience. Tickets are 5.

Inspectors give nursery glowing report card

A CITY nursery has received a successful report from school inspectors.

St Leonard's Nursery has been praised for the progress made by children in learning and development, the "highly motivated" headteacher and staff, and its use of the outdoor area to develop children's learning across the curriculum.

The inspectors will not be returning to the nursery in connection with this report but have advised staff to continue to develop personal profiles to document children's progress.

Show some love for our war heroes

SUPPORTERS of the veterans' charity Erskine are being invited to show their love for the Capital's ex-servicemen and women by attending a Valentine's Fayre.

The Erskine Edinburgh Home in Gilmerton will be opening its doors on February 12, from 2pm until 4pm.

Entry to the Valentine's Fayre costs 2 for adults and 1 for children, and tickets are available to purchase from the door on the day.
