Load up with change and visit street festival

IT MIGHT take a few pocketfuls of change to get down Rose Street tomorrow – the street is set to be taken over by scores of buskers.

The Rose Street Festival sees the street split into four zones, with the section between Charlotte Street and Castle Street reserved entirely for buskers.

Other zones will include Celtic culture, dancing and street performance.

A spokeswoman for organisers Essential Edinburgh said: "It's going to be a bit of a free for all, but it will be a lot of fun."

St Andrew Square to Hanover Street will be taken over by ceilidh bands and Celtic singers, including the Portobello Ceilidh Band, one of the leading lights in the field of Scottish traditional dance music.

There will also be performances from Irish dancers the Haughey McAuleys and weaving entertainer Tartan Heather, who sings Gaelic songs as she spins her yarns, and 14-year-old singer Jack Roberston, who won a national talent competition last year.

The spokeswoman said: "In the last year Jack has sung at the Forth One Awards alongside Stereophonics, Jason Donovan, Sharleen Spiteri and others, then the 50th Anniversary for the Bee Gees in London with the Rhythm Kings, Lulu and Beverley Knight."
