Lithuanians in tourism trip

A DELEGATION from Lithuania visited Midlothian on Wednesday on a fact-finding mission learning about promoting tourism.

The team of businessmen, councillors and officials travelled from Ukmerge – about 30 miles from the capital Vilnius – to Dalkeith and were officially welcomed by Depute Provost of Midlothian, councillor Margot Russell, alongside two colleagues.

Delegates wanted to draw on Midlothian’s experience of harnessing the potential of public-private sector partnerships for economic regeneration and renovation of historic buildings.

Councillor Russell Imrie, cabinet member for strategic services, said; “There are interesting parallels in how Ukmerge and ourselves are working to promote heritage tourism.”
