Links go back centuries

Iain Lawson, Estonia's Honorary Consul to Scotland, said: "The links between Scotland and Estonia go back for centuries.

"After the wars of independence it was food from the Baltic countries that kept the Scots from starving and after those wars Scots mercenaries operated in Estonia on behalf of the King of Sweden.

"At one point there was a community of 200-300 Scots, the families of Baltic traders, in Narva in the south of Estonia, and even now in Scotland there are a lot of links between traders in the east of Scotland and Estonia.

"Today the biggest group of pubs in the centre of Tallinn are owned by a Scottish and Irish group."
