Lifeboat volunteers are all aboard for honours

VOLUNTEERS will be presented with bronze badges by the lifeboats charity in recognition of their "outstanding support".

Lifeboat Coxswain Gary Fairburn, of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, will give the honorary awards to three women from East Lothian.

Sheon Cairns and Fiona Fleming are stalwarts of Dunbar's fundraising committee, while Jean Meikle works with the North Berwick and Gullane fundraising branch.

The lifeboat crew from Dunbar will also be presented with gallantry awards for their roles in rescues last year. They will join 101 volunteers from around Scotland at the charity's annual meeting at Perth Concert Hall in June.

Isla Dewar, fundraising and communications manager, said: "It would be impossible for the RNLI to provide its lifesaving service without the dedication of volunteers.

Volunteers rarely get the recognition they deserve, which is why the RNLI holds an annual award ceremony to thank them."
