Library plans are approved

PLANS for a new library and "community hub" in Drumbrae have been given the go-ahead.

The city council is to build a library, day care centre and a local neighbourhood office at Drum Brae Drive in a 5.7 million project.

City planners approved the proposals yesterday.

Drumbrae councillor Colin Keir said: "I am delighted the library plans have gone through and people in the area will be very pleased as this will be a real asset."

He added, however, that he felt there should have been more parking fitted into the plans, as there is already a shortage of parking availability.

The project recently received 787,000 to get the building off the ground as part of 6m worth of grants awarded to the city's six new "hub initiatives" by the Scottish Futures Trust.
