The councillor for Bridge of Don is expected to appear in court next month.

A spokesman for the Scottish Liberal Democrats said: "He stood down as a parliamentary candidate with immediate effect this morning."

Mr Leslie, who was born in Aberdeen and lives in the Bridge of Don area, said he would be making no comment.

A spokesman for Grampian Police said: "Grampian Police can confirm that a 64-year-old man has been reported to the procurator fiscal regarding five contraventions of the Prostitution (Public Places) (Scotland) Act 2007.

"He is expected to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on March 3."
