Liam Fee murder: Trial adjourned after juror falls ill

THE Liam Fee murder trial was adjourned this afternoon after one of the 14 remaining jurors complained of feeling unwell.

Nyomi Fee, 29 and Rachel Trelfa or Fee, 31, are both accused of murdering Rachel’s son Liam and falsely blaming another child for the killing.

Liam, 2, was found dead at a house near Glenrothes, Fife on March 22, 2014. A post-mortem examination found the cause of death was a ruptured heart caused by a “blunt force trauma” to his abdomen.

The Fees, originally from Ryton, Tyne and Wear, are also charged with assaulting, abusing and wilfully neglecting Liam and two seven-year-old boys they were looking after over a two year period.

The charges allege that they forced the older children to take cold showers as a punishment for wetting the bed, tied one in a makeshift cage, frightened the other with snakes and rats and forced them to eat excrement.

They deny all the charges against them.

Judge Lord Burns asked the jury to return to the High Court at Livingston on Tuesday at 10am to resume their deliberations.

The trial continues.
