Leith to flag up its secret golf history

ONE of Leith's best-kept secrets could soon be made into a play and novel.

Members of the Leith Rules Golf Society are in discussions about making a production celebrating Leith as the site of the first ever recorded game of golf.

The society feels that Leith Links being the place where the original rules of golf were first set in stone is a "missed opportunity" to attract tourists.

It is thought the play and book would centre around the characters likely to have been regulars in 1877 when records began.

Discussions are at an early stage with the production company, which the society said they were not yet able to name publicly, and members are also looking at erecting a statue.
