Leisure firm wins industry ethics award

THE company that manages Edinburgh's sports facilities has been credited for its social and environmental strategy.

Edinburgh Leisure has been awarded the ethical business Social Enterprise Mark.

It becomes only the second leisure trust in Scotland to receive the accreditation, which recognises the work that the organisation does to benefit the general public.

It joins a list of other ethical businesses that have been given the mark, including Cornwall's Eden Project.

June Peebles, Edinburgh Leisure's director for business development, said: "We're really proud to have been awarded the Social Enterprise Mark. Edinburgh Leisure is absolutely committed to helping local communities to change their lives through sports and leading a more active lifestyle.

"Edinburgh Leisure and our partners will be able to continue to work together with increased vigour and confidence."

Among recent projects that helped it win the accreditation was a partnership with NHS Lothian to help tackle issues such as obesity and depression.
