Legendary racing yacht to join Britannia at capital dock

A YACHT on which Prince Charles and Princess Anne learned to sail is to become a tourist attraction in Scotland.

The classic 1930s racing vessel Bloodhound will be moored permanently next to the home of the Royal Yacht Britannia, right, at Edinburgh's Ocean Termainal.

The 63ft long boat was legendary in racing circles for being one of the most successful ocean-going yachts until the late 1960s, because of the number of races it won.

Britannia has been a major attraction in Edinburgh for more than ten years, since the capital fought off a host of rivals to become its permanent home.

Now the organisation that runs Britannia as a year-round attraction in Leith has snapped up Bloodhound and will open it to the public in April.

Rear Admiral Neil Rankin, chair of the Royal Yacht Britannia Trust, said: "We look forward to having Bloodhound alongside Britannia once more, for the public to see what a wonderful ocean-racing yacht she is and why she was so fondly regarded by all associated with her illustrious past."
