Legal options considered at St Andrew Sq

THE company responsible for St Andrew Square Gardens has said it is considering its legal options over the anti-capitalist protest camp which has become established there.

Essential Edinburgh chief executive Andy Neil said the protesters had behaved responsibly. But he added: “There are increasing numbers of people who are coming on to us saying ‘When are you going to do something about it?’

“We are in a slightly difficult situation because they are on private property as opposed to public property.”

The protesters said they hoped to reach an agreement with Essential Edinburgh about sharing space to allow Christmas events in the garden.

The 30-tent camp could expand if Glasgow City Council carries out its threat to evict protesters from a similar camp in George Square and the campaigners move to the Capital.
