Leftovers fear for winter birds

CITY residents are being urged to take care when disposing of cooking oil and fats over the festive season in case winter birds become ill.

RSPB Scotland said leftovers such as cake and biscuit crumbs, mild grated cheese, cooked rice, porridge oats, cooked potatoes can help wildlife if left out.

But Louise Smith, of RSPB Scotland, said: “Using fat from roasting tins to feed to garden birds is a big no-no. The juices mixed in roasting tins will go off and could cause disease.”
