Left in Scots hotels: Bagpipes, rocks & a cat pram

A MINIATURE gingerbread village, a glass eye in a gold box, a traffic lollipop stick, a suitcase full of whisky and one disgruntled husband were just some of the items left behind in Scots hotel rooms last year.

The annual round-up by budget chain Travelodge also included the keys to an Aston Martin, a bikini made in Macdonald tartan, and a personalised Louis Vuitton case full of “bespoke outfits” for a cat, including a pram and a range of dummies.

Also forgotten in rooms throughout Scotland were a pile of rocks collected from the summit of Ben Nevis, soil from the Highlands, a set of bagpipes, a Vera Wang wedding dress and a 40-year-old love letter.

One woman left her husband behind in Livingston, and drove for half an hour before she realised and returned to the hotel.

Travelodge spokeswoman Shakila Ahmed said: “It was a bumper year for weird and wonderful items left behind in our Scottish hotels.

“What is becoming evident after speaking to our customers is that the pace of life has become so fast and we are so eager to get from A to B that valuable possessions are easily being forgotten.

“As a result of changing for a new modern look and feel, more new business customers and families have been staying, so this year’s lost and found inventory list has revealed some new unique items being left behind.

“Our 2014 list also revealed how much smart technology has become a part of our everyday lives, as we have had 12,000 tablets and smartphones left behind in our hotels in the last 12 months. This is a significant increase from previous years.”
