Learn from the west says airport chief

The under-fire boss of Edinburgh Airport has appealed for the Capital to learn lessons from Glasgow as he prepares to quit for Bahrain.

Gordon Dewar - who has sparked protests with his plans for a "kiss and fly tax" charge for motorists dropping off passengers at the airport - is leaving to take charge of Bahrain International Airport.

Writing in today's Evening News, the 44-year-old managing director says it is crucial Edinburgh is ready to take advantage of opportunities as Britain emerges from the economic crisis.

A "can do" attitude, where leading figures in the public and private sector work together for the common good of the city, is essential, he argues, pointing to the example of Glasgow where the approach has been adopted out of necessity to shake off the city's social and image problems of old.
