Leader earns Brownie point as volunteer

A RETIRED Brownie leader has been named Inspiring Volunteer of the Year at a ceremony at the City Chambers.

Liz Bisset from Craigmillar retired from her role earlier this year at the age of 65, having been in the Brownies movement since she joined as a seven-year-old.

She is also a former district commissioner and trustee of Girlguiding Edinburgh, and is a trustee of children's bereavement charity Richmond's Hope.

Her contribution to the city's voluntary sector was officially recognised by Lord Provost George Grubb at the City Chambers recently.

Fifty other volunteers were also recognised at the awards ceremony, which was organised by Volunteer Centre Edinburgh and the Edinburgh Compact Partnership.

Councillor Grubb said: "These awards are a wonderful way of paying tribute to these often unsung heroes. I would like to offer my congratulations to Elizabeth Bisset in particular for her achievement as Inspiring Volunteer of the Year."
