Latest Haymarket hotel plans slammed

NEW proposals for a development of shops and offices and a hotel at Haymarket have come under fire from heritage groups.

Tiger Developments was forced to abandon its previous plans for a 17-storey hotel on the site, a former railway goods yard, following a public inquiry.

Critics claim the latest scheme would be an eyesore next to Haymarket station and still ruin a host of views to and from the area.

The Cockburn Association said that apart from the removal of the high-rise five-star hotel, the latest design is little different from the one that was rejected.

Director Marion Williams said: "The overall height of the development is a significant concern.

"The roofs of the proposed buildings are lumpy and cannot be considered a landmark."

Tiger Developments hopes to gain planning permission for the development by the end of the year.
