Last camera firm sees out final sad day

HIGH street camera chain Jessops has closed all of its stores just days after it plunged into administration.

Almost 1400 jobs have been lost at the company, which had branches in the Capital and Livingston.

Administrator PricewaterhouseCoopers said all 187 stores in the UK were shutting for good at the end of yesterday’s trading.

Jessops is the first major retail casualty of the year, and analysts have warned many other household names could go to the wall in 2013.

The firm, which had 12 of its 192 stores in Scotland, was Britain’s only nationwide specialist camera retailer.

It has suffered in recent years from online competition and the boom in camera phones, which has hit demand for digital cameras.

Rob Hunt, joint administrator, said it was an “extremely sad day”.
