Landlord 'considering legal action' on coverage

THE landlord arrested on suspicion of murdering Joanna Yeates is now believed to be considering legal action.

Friends of Chris Jefferies say he always expected to be cleared of any wrong-doing.

They say he has not ruled out taking legal action over his arrest and the coverage that followed in some newspapers.

The 65-year-old first came to the media's attention after it was reported he told police he saw three people leaving Miss Yeates' property on 17 December, shortly after 9pm - not long after the 25-year-old arrived home alone.

However, when interviewed by the media he said that was "a serious distortion of what I said to the police".

He added: "I have no further comment to make as that, no doubt, will be distorted." Shortly after that, police arrested the pensioner, at 7am on 30 December, at his home in the same Victorian block of flats where Miss Yeates had lived.

Police obtained two extensions to the length of time they were able to question him, to up to 72 hours, but released him at 10pm on 1 January.

He remains on unconditional bail.
