Lake District mansion on the market for £5.25m

A MULTIMILLION-pound mansion on the shores of England's biggest lake is up for sale for the first time in 200 years.

Town Head House, a Georgian mansion near Newby Bridge, on the shores of Lake Windermere, has been put on the market for 5.25 million - making it one of the most expensive homes in the Lake District.

It is the highest-priced national park property that Kendal's Carter Jonas estate agency has ever dealt with.

The selling agent, Andrew Holmes, told the Westmoreland Gazette newspaper in Cumbria: "It is a very special home, since it has been in the same family for 200 years.

"It's also extremely rare to have an estate that's complete and not split up.

"It's certainly one of the most exciting properties we've had."

The nine-bedroom Grade II listed house is owned by a fine art dealer, Charles Townley, and his wife Roslyn.

The property's 105-acre estate also includes three cottages, a boathouse, barns, two coach houses and a walled kitchen garden and woodland.
