Labour will revive Asbos, pledges Iain Gray

SCOTTISH Labour leader Iain Gray has unveiled plans to revive Asbos as part of a crackdown on antisocial behaviour.

The SNP government has moved away from using Anti-Social Behaviour Orders in Scotland, while Prime Minister David Cameron has branded them a failure. But new fast-track Asbos, which residents groups can demand, are at the heart of a five-point plan launched by Mr Gray yesterday.

"Time and time again, people are telling us that they are sick to the back teeth of antisocial behaviour but don't bother reporting it because they don't think anything will get done," he said. "That needs to change."

The party released figures estimating more than half a million offences had gone unreported last year.

Labour's five-point action plan also aims to tackle problems such as noisy neighbours and alcohol-fuelled antisocial activity.

Tough action to eradicate trouble in public parks has also been earmarked, along with plans for Drink Banning Orders.
