Labour MPs hold talks over new ship oil-transfer rules

THREE Labour MPs have met Shipping Minister Mike Penning to voice their concern over delays in new regulations on ship-to-ship oil transfers.

Edinburgh North & Leith MP Mark Lazarowicz was joined by East Lothian MP Fiona O'Donnell and Dunfermline & West Fife MP Thomas Docherty in pressing the case for more controls to improve safety and protect the environment. Mr Lazarowicz said: "I'm very unhappy the new government has delayed.

"I hope the minister will not be persuaded by a few voices in the shipping industry to back down on the plans."

Ms O'Donnell said: "There are justifiable concerns about the risks to the beautiful coastline of East Lothian."
