Labour group vows to stop frontline cuts

OPPOSITION councillors in the Capital today vowed to oppose cuts to frontline services during the upcoming budget process.

The Labour group on the city council said it would not allow education and other frontline services to suffer in its budget.

It is currently finalising details of its budget proposals ahead of next week's budget meeting in the city chambers.

Proposals by council officials had recommended cutting budgets for schools and other services.

Councillor Ian Murray, finance spokesman for the Labour group, said: "This discredited administration have published proposals to slash school budgets, close eight community centres, take over 3 million out of care for the elderly and the disabled and decimate grants to voluntary and charitable organisations."

Labour group leader Andrew Burns said: "Whilst the administration manages to find 90m to buy the council HQ, the education of our children and the vulnerable are being ask to pick up the bill."
