SCOTS rocker KT Tunstall soaked up the limelight at the Q Awards yesterday, as Sir Paul McCartney has dedicated his latest award to his wife Linda, who died from cancer in 1998.

Band On The Run by Wings - soon to be reissued 37 years after it was first released - took the Q classic album award at a ceremony attended by a galaxy of stars from the music , world including Charlotte Church, Sandie Shaw, and Nadine Coyle.

Accepting the prize, Sir Paul recalled: "This album was quite a struggle to make.

"The Beatles were a hard act to follow, and we were going to follow them."

"As they were about to leave to record the album, two band members left the band and then when they arrived in Lagos - where it was recorded - they were mugged and lost the tapes.

"Linda was getting slagged off for being in the band. I was getting slagged off for letting her in the band. But we finally got it together on this album."

To a standing ovation, he added: "This one's for Linda."

Meanwhile, Robbie Williams hinted Take That might be back for good as the recently reformed group picked up the Q Hall of Fame award.

The singer rejoined his old bandmates earlier this year after they reunited without him in 2005. On stage to accept the award, Williams said: "Very happy to be back. First day and we've won an award.

"I'd like to thank my boys. Extremely happy here. Looking forward to the next few years."

Another reformed band, Suede, also picked up an award.

Collecting the Q inspiration award, frontman Brett Anderson paid tribute to guitarist, Bernard Butler, who quit the line-up after only a short spell in the spotlight.
