Knifeman sought after £4,500 bank raid

A KNIFEMAN stole more than £4,500 after he walked into a busy city-centre bank and threatened staff.

The man, who was wearing a grey hooded tracksuit top and had a gaunt appearance, had to force the doors of the bank open to make his escape on foot.

No-one was injured in the robbery at the Bank of Scotland in Trongate, Glasgow, at around 4:30pm on Thursday. Police described the knifeman as white, in his late 20s or early 30s and around 6ft tall.

He was carrying a black-and -white JD Sports carrier bag and spoke with a local accent.

Detective Constable John Johnston, of Strathclyde Police said: "At this time of day, the area will have been very busy.

"I'm sure people will have witnessed the commotion that took place when the man got caught up in the bank's doors. I would appeal to anyone who may have seen this to get in touch.

"We believe the man may have been outside the bank some time before the robbery occurred, so it's possible someone may have seen him hanging around, perhaps acting a little suspiciously."
