King Charles is back in the saddle after restoration

EASY does it as a statue of King Charles II is lowered on to his horse in Parliament Square.

The 1685 statue, the oldest lead-cast statue in the UK, was removed in October after an investigation showed its internal frame was deteriorating and it could collapse.

It returned yesterday after undergoing six months of specialist refurbishment work.

The landmark was originally put up at the expense of the Edinburgh Town Council as a tribute to King Charles II and was "formed in the Roman manner, like one of the Caesars".
