Rosdeep Adekoya, 34, is being paid £9 a week to scrub toilets, floors and cells at Cornton Vale jail near Stirling.

The mother of five was given the role after bosses refused her request to serve meals in the prison’s canteen over concerns she would be attacked by fellow inmates. A source said: “I don’t think she really likes it as sometimes during recreation, the officers will shout on her to clean out a cell. She feels that’s her time to socialise. “She wanted a canteen job but officers wouldn’t let her in case she got attacked.”

Last month, Adekoya was jailed for 11 years for beating Mikaeel to death.

The source said she was spending most of her cash on sweets, toiletries and stamps, adding: “Inmates can earn £5-£15 a week.”
