Kids worker to test himself

A CHILDCARE support worker from East Lothian is geared to raise money for charity by completing the gruelling Iron Man event.

David Arnold, who works at Lothian Villa, one of East Lothian Council's two children and young people's centres, has been in training for the past two years for the event, which takes place on July 31.

The 39-year-old will have to endure a 2.4 mile swim in Pembleton Flash near Bolton, followed by a 112-mile bike ride around the Pennines. He then finishes off with a traditional marathon run of 26.2 miles, ending up in Bolton Town Centre. It is thought the task will last 17 hours.

Around 1500 people start off Iron Man events and only about 1100 finish. Mr Arnold is hoping to raise funds for Save the Children.
