Kick-off: Karate championships hit Scotland

The World Karate Championship has started at the Royal Highland Centre in Edinburgh with a technical display by world chief instructor Masao Kagawa. Mr Kagawa is a Sensei 8th Dan.

Around 1,500 competitors, aged between six and 70 from 31 countries, and 6,000 spectators are expected to attend the event, which is predicted to bring in £1 million to Edinburgh. Competitors from Belgium, Japan, Germany and New Zealand will take part in the two-day championships hosted by Japan Karate Shoto- renmei (JKS) Scotland.
