Kevin Carroll trial: Murder accused’s partner tells of police dawn raid

The partner of a man accused of shooting dead a gangland figure in a supermarket car park has described the arrest of her boyfriend in a dawn raid, while she was heavily pregnant.

Jade McLaughlan, 26, said she was in bed with Ross Monaghan when “a mass” of police came to arrest him in July 2010.

Miss McLaughlan, who is studying to be a teacher, was due to have a Caesarean section 10 days after the raid and gave birth to the couple’s daughter on 10 August.

She was giving evidence at the High Court in Glasgow during the trial of Monaghan who is accused of gunning down Kevin “Gerbil” Carroll outside Asda in Robroyston, Glasgow in January 2010.

Monaghan, 30, denies repeatedly shooting and murdering Mr Carroll, while acting with others, on 13 January 2010. He has lodged a special defence of incrimination, blaming eight other men.

Ms McLaughlan said she had never heard of Kevin Carroll until that time. She said about 15 armed police searched Monaghan’s home, while she was in the car and said she had to wait outside until 9am because police did not have the correct warrants
