Kenzo unveils hybrid kilt trouser

WELL, it's one way to stand out from the crowd at this year's Burns Supper.

Fashion house Kenzo sent eye-popping creations down the Paris catwalk yesterday at the start of the autumn-winter 2011 Paris fashion shows, in a menswear collection that was dominated by Scottish influences of tartan, tweed and knitwear.

Tartan and tweed appeared repeatedly in the collection of snug Savile Row-style suits, often paired with V-neck Argyle jumpers and droopy satin bow ties. But it was the trouser-kilt hybrids that raised the most eyebrows, with one fashion observer describing it as "surprisingly fetching, requiring only a bold, fearless personality to pull them off".

The label, named after its Japanese creator Kenzo Takada, is renowned for its bold looks.

Current designer, Italian Antonio Marras, said: "Every season is like a mystery; a search for clues that allow you to find new looks, new shapes that stay true to the style of the house."

It is not known if the bowler hat (see Page one picture) is a nod to the Orange Order or a fusion of two very different styles from opposite ends of the British Isles.
