Karen Buckley killer ‘under special protection’

ALEXANDER Pacteau, the man responsible for murdering Karen Buckley, has been placed under special supervision at Barlinnie prison after threats were made by other inmates.

The 21-year-old is facing a life sentence after pleading guilty to killing the Irish student after seeing her outside the Sanctuary nightclub in Glasgow.

Pacteau admitted to strangling and battering Karen to death with a spanner before trying to dissolve her body using caustic soda in his bathtub. He later dumped her body at farm outside the city.

He is being kept separate from other inmates at Scotland’s largest prison, which included segregation at meal times and breaks.

The Herald quoted a source as saying: “A number of threats have been levelled against Pacteau from other inmates.

“Staff at the prison have now taken protective measures to minimise the risk posed to him.

“He is being segregated during breaks and at meal times.”
