Jurors selected for poison trial

POTENTIAL jurors were selected yesterday in the case of a woman charged with poisoning her former lover and his new fiancée.

Lakhvir Kaur Singh, 40, of Southall, London, denies murdering Lakhvinder Cheema, 39, and attempting to murder Gurjeet Kaur Choongh, 21, last January. Singh also denies attempting to murder Mr Cheema in December 2008. The jurors were told the Old Bailey trial, which is due to begin this week, could last five weeks.

Mr Cheema, of Princes Road, Feltham, London, died in London's West Middlesex Hospital after allegedly eating food laced with a toxic substance.
