Jura plane crash: Coastguard helicopter called to incident on Scottish island

A light aircraft has crashed on the isle of Jura, with emergency services attending the scene.

The incident happened this afternoon on the west coast of the island, with a Coastguard helicopter being called out from Prestwick to respond, due to the inaccessible nature of the crash site.

The rescue team managed to move the wreckage of the plane above the high tide.

The Coastguard say that the occupant of the plane was not injured in the incident.

A spokesperson for the Coastguard, said: “Just before 3pm today (20 April), HM Coastguard received a 999 call from the pilot of a light aircraft, that had carried out an emergency landing at Shian Bay on the Isle of Jura.

“Jura Coastguard Rescue Team and the coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Prestwick that was training nearby, were sent.

“The pilot, who was the only person on board, was not injured and needed no further medical attention.”
