Junior activity award launch

A JUNIOR award scheme based on the successful Duke of Edinburgh Award is being launched in the Capital.

The Junior Awards Scheme Scotland (JASS) will give children from P6 to S2 the chance to take part in outdoor activities and expeditions.

Pupils can try cycling, canoeing, climbing and hill walking and work towards a certificate through the later stages of primary and into secondary.

City education leader Marilyne MacLaren said: "Activities that promote a healthy lifestyle, a community ethos and personal responsibility are exactly what young people need to complement their education.

"The Duke of Edinburgh's award does all of this."
