Joint funeral for couple married 70 years

A PROMINENT North-east farmer and his wife, married for more than 70 years, have died within 24 hours of each other.

Donald MacKenzie, 97, died last Thursday, the day after his wife Mina, 93, died in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after being admitted with a broken leg. The couple will be laid to rest tomorrow after a joint funeral service at their local church in the Kincardine village of Auchenblae.

Mr and Mrs MacKenzie, of Brownmuir House, Fordoun, married in 1939. Mr Mackenzie built up a successful herd of pedigree Hereford cattle and was a local councillor for 36 years.

The couple are survived by their three children and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren - and one great great grandchild.
