Join in the clean up on Royal Mile

VOLUNTEERS will be urged to join council workers as part of a three-day clean-up of the Royal Mile.

The move has been ordered amid concerns about the level of rubbish, graffiti and street clutter on the historic road.

Tearing down unwanted posters and fixing street lights will also be part of the initiative, and local authority bosses hope locals will give up their own time to help.

The clean-up will start on March 6, with chiefs saying it will be an ongoing project.

The move comes after heritage groups said that rubbish on the Royal Mile was putting off tourists and showing the Capital in a poor light compared to other European cities.

Economic development leader Councillor Tom Buchanan said: “We aim to involve as many local residents, businesses and other stakeholders as we can. This will be an ongoing project.”
