Joanna's spicy way to help Gurkha families

ACTRESS Joanna Lumley has helped to create a chutney that will part-fund support for the Gurkhas.

Lumley was enlisted by a UK manufacturer to help develop the limited-edition Mango Chutney and Kashmiri Chilli - an ingredient from her birthplace, Kashmir, and it will be available next month in supermarkets.

Sharwood's will donate 10p from each jar sold to the Gurkha Welfare Trust, of which she is vice-patron and which cares for ex-Gurkhas and their families.

Lumley said: "I have been addicted to hot spices since my childhood and the Sharwood's chefs have helped realise my dream of creating a flavoured chutney with chilli from Kashmir, where I was born.

"I am delighted to be introducing this delicious new chutney to the British public, as well as supporting the Gurkha Welfare Trust, an organisation close to my heart."

Katherine Ayres, deputy director at the Gurkha Welfare Trust, said: "We would like to thank both Joanna and Sharwood's for their generosity and for supporting the trust.

"Joanna has long been associated with the work of the trust, and we are hugely grateful for her continued support for our soldiers and widows in Nepal."
