Jimi Mistry latest celebrity to hang up dancing shoes

ACTOR Jimi Mistry last night became Strictly Come Dancing's latest casualty, becoming the fifth celebrity to leave the competition after he was voted off by viewers.

He donned a pin-striped suit on the BBC show on Saturday, while accompanying dance partner Flavia Cacace.

Judges had mixed feelings about the performance. Craig Revel Horwood said he appeared "pigeon-toed", while Bruno Tonioli thought the routine captured a jazz-era feel. "It was very entertaining, very well danced," he said.

Alesha Dixon was also impressed. "You make everybody smile; it's exactly what I expect from a quickstep," she commened.

The judges awarded the actor a combined score of 32 out of a possible 40 points for the performance, his highest in the competition. But it was not enough for him to stay on the show.

Audiences voted him off last night.

As he wiped a tear from his eye, Mistry was given a standing ovation from both the judges and the studio audience.

His elimination leaves nine celebrities in the competition - Kara Tointon, Gavin Henson, Matt Baker, Patsy Kensit, Felicity Kendal, Ann Widdecombe, Michelle Williams, Scott Maslen and Pamela Stephenson.

The remaining couples will dance on Saturday to either a ballroom or Latin routine they have not yet performed.
