Jilted husband made wife listen as she smashed £30,000 car

A JEALOUS husband phoned his estranged wife to let her hear him smashing up her Mercedes sports car.

Scott McFarlane caused £600 worth of damage vandalising the £30,000 convertible on Hogmanay.

The following day he turned up at his love rival’s home in Broxburn, West Lothian, and threatened him with a metal bar.

McFarlane, 39, of Bathgate, West Lothian, pleaded guilty to malicious damage and breach of the peace when he appeared from custody at Livingston Sheriff Court yesterday.

Graham Fraser, prosecuting, said the accused’s wife had left him after 11 years of marriage and was now living with her new partner.

Sheriff Gerald Warner deferred sentence for six months for good behaviour.

He told McFarlane that if he paid for the damage and demonstrated that the offence was a “one-off” he would be admonished.
