Jet cargo scare a wake-up call

The discovery of explosive devices in aeroplane cargo has increased support for airport security checks, a survey has found.

Parcels originating from Yemen containing explosive material, addressed to synagogues in Chicago, were discovered on cargo aircraft at East Midlands Airport and in Dubai last month.

Prior to news of the discovery, 42 per cent of respondents said they would feel more confident flying if current security checks at airports were maintained.

This rose to 50 per cent after news of the discovery broke.

More than 1,000 British adults aged between 16 and 64 took part in the TNS Travel and Tourism survey.
