Java rail and ferry accidents kill 16

Two Indonesian passenger trains crashed and a ferry burst into flames yesterday, killing 16 people, officials said.

The accidents occurred 30 minutes apart on the island of Java. At 2:30am, a train stopped on a track in West Java, and was hit head-on by another trying to switch lanes. Thirty minutes later and 225 miles west, a ferry carrying 400 people caught fire. Thirteen died in the blaze.
